Bologna
A work of mine is going to take part in the upcoming Bologna show, by the end of this month. By the way, I am not alone - Two Israeli illustrators whose work I really love, are going to show their work in the exhibition: Natalie Pudalov and Orit Bergman.
The interesting thing about this project was that I tried to work with almost no preceding sketch at all, and if there was any, it was very rough. The result was more minimalistic, in terms of composition and color palette. Working without a highly rendered sketch helped me get rid of unnecessary stuff and leave only the essential. In a way, it was a purifying process.
Every artist knows that a very detailed sketch can be a limitation. I think this relates to the fact that the more there are guidelines in your life, the harder it is to find what is true for you.
"I'm wary of using words like 'inspiration' or 'creativity' without at least trying to demystify them first.
They can easily convey a false impression that ideas or feelings appear spontaneously and of their own accord." -----Shaun Tan

Wonderful! I love the small details such as the string knots and the hard-to-find teapot in the window.
I think the last three are the best in the series, How much for a framed original? ;-)
Enjoy Bologna, I do hope to finally attend the fair next year. My agent will there for me though. Maybe you could upload some photos from the fair to your blog when you return along with your insights.
Shahar
עפרה,
מאוד-מאוד יפה... העדינות, המרקמים, הדברים הגלויים והסמויים מהעין בו בזמן... תענוג.
להתראות,
צחי
Nat, Shahar, Tzachi, I am so glad you like it. Actually, I do feel that the second and the forth images are the weakest. Shahar you noticed the teapot! Even I forget it's there. Posting some photos from Bologna is a good idea - I promise do to that!

Beautiful illustrations. My favorite is no.5.
I wonder what is the text behind the images..
Enjoy Bologna
Naama
Hi Naama, happy to find your comment here. Actually, there is no text. The story is completely visual, and I was thinking about the idea of having someone to write the text for the illustrations, whatever comes to his/her mind. What do you think about this concept? it's like the writer illustrates with words, gives his own point of view...
Sounds interesting. Maybe you could write it...
that's how I began writing myself
and you did such a great job, I don't think I could ever...(:
הי עפרה
איזה יופי
אין מילים
ממש מרגש
:-)
